For this assignment I choose to focus on the video game industry. in specific I will be looking at Electronic Arts, an American video game publisher mostly known for their sports franchises. This will look at how EA uses online marketing to increase followers and promote products.

 Electronic Arts uses many online marketing tactics to promote products and increase customer awareness of the brand. like many other companies in the digital age, EA can be found in all of the online marketing hotspots such as Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, etc. What EA does slightly differently, or at least on Facebook, is the promotion of future games through Facebook apps. For example before the release of the EA title Dragon Age 2, EA had a web game on Facebook that was a sort of mini spin off of the series but in flash form. Playing this game before release allowed users to potentially earn items for the retail release of the game. Behind the scenes this strategy allowed users to have fun while being promoted to, allowing a creative and interactive advertisement that also increased followers and increased awareness to other products EA was offering through side ads on the page. A win-win for both consumer and company.

This campaign has several target audiences. First, it allows EA to bring in casual crowd to the product by using their own medium. Secondly, it caters to the individuals who already would have bought the product, but by adding in the in-game bonuses, those users see value in the campaign. Both groups are being advertised to but in different ways.
